Make it happen

We cannot “make” Jesus Christ anything. The only “making” that ever took place in our understanding and relationship with God is the fact that He made us. It’s not the other way around.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27

We don’t “make” Jesus anything. We don’t have the power or the authority. It would be helpful for us to stop thinking and speaking this way.

Jesus Christ is Lord. Period.

We choose to receive and believe that Jesus Christ is Lord. The apostle Paul tells us

because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. – Romans 10:9-10

We don’t make Him Lord. He is Lord. And once we realize that and believe that we confess that Jesus is Lord! This act of submission changes everything! In that moment that we first believe in Jesus Christ we experience salvation.

What we “make” is ourselves submissive to His Lordship. We yield the lordship we think we have over our lives and give it over to the One True Lord of All. Anything less is rejecting Who God is and what He did in and through His Son Jesus Christ. You either believe in Him and His Lordship or you do not. There is no making.

There is, however, growing. We grow in our understanding of Who Jesus is. We grow in our understanding of His promises, commands, statutes, principles, character, nature, etc. We should always be growing in our understanding of Jesus Christ’s Lordship. This is what it means to mature in our faith. There is always more of the Gospel for us to understand. But our understanding of the Gospel needs to be built on the foundation that we can do nothing for and of ourselves. We cannot “make” Christ anything.

But believing in Him and confessing His Lordship is the beginning of the rest of your everything…
